The Voice of Mountain Biking in Northern Ireland

About Us

The Northern Ireland Mountain Biking Alliance was formed in January 2012 to help provide a strong, cohesive voice for the rapidly growing sport of mountain biking in Northern Ireland, and to share best practice for the development of new trails across the country.

Objectives of NIMBA

1. Provide a strong representative voice for mountain biking in Northern Ireland

2. Promote mountain biking as an important and exciting outdoor activity in Northern Ireland, and one that offers many health, social and economic benefits and opportunities.

3. Assist in the creation and management of a network of sustainable mountain biking trails in Northern Ireland.

4. Promote environmentally sound and socially responsible mountain biking in Northern Ireland.

5. Contribute to public consultations in line with the objectives of the organisation.

How We Can Help

We can assist a range of different stakeholders in the progression of mountain biking projects, as follows:

  • Government, strategic planners, policy-makers - We can assist you through the provision of contacts, research, data and rationale for the strategic planning and development of mountain biking projects in Northern Ireland.
  • Trail providers - We can help with process, contacts, documentation, best practice and volunteer support, whether you are a council, club, representative body or business planning or delivering a trail project.
  • Land owners / managers - We can help you to understand the opportunities for mountain biking product on your land, the responsibilities attaching to it, and how best to structure projects for maximum sustainability.
  • Mountain biking groups and clubs - We can help you achieve your goals for more, better trails with sound advocacy, strength of voice, process, promotion and communication with all relevant stakeholders.

Why Your Support Matters

Your support adds to efforts in the planning and delivery of progressive, challenging, world-class mountain biking facilities in Northern Ireland.  Those efforts involve close liaison with many public sector organisations, including Forest Service, Northern Ireland Tourist Board, Local Councils, SportNI and ORNI, as well as a wide range of others in the voluntary and private sectors.

Membership Fees - NONE!

Joining the Northern Ireland Mountain Biking Alliance is free.  There is a need for a large support base for the Alliance to have a strong voice, and we are seeking the support of clubs, individuals, businesses and any other organisations with an interest in the growth of mountain-biking in Northern Ireland.  We welcome any individual, club or business that supports the objectives and articles of our Constitution.

Running costs

We are incurring costs every month for hosting and our web and membership management system, with very occasional spend on support materials to assist with presentations, and bits and pieces of travel expenses.  Committee mamabers are covering these costs personally at the moment.  All of our income and spend is sanctioned by committee and declared in our financial statements, which are published at our AGM.  See the Constitution for more details of process here.

Donations Welcome

We have suggested a small donation from members to assist with the modest but real running costs; £10 for individuals, £20 for clubs, and £30 for businesses.  Note: Donations are purely voluntary, and in no way affect your rights as a member, whether you decide to donate or not. Over time, we hope to be able to directly assist with the part-financing of trail projects and other tangible items, but that’s some way down the line.

Donations through Paypal only - Please use treasurer@nimba.org.uk as the payee.  Click here to go to Paypal.
